Wrap Swings and Therapy Swings
A wrap swing is a long length of stretchy nylon that you knot to two carabiners, so it hugs the person inside it. It is the swing most often asked for by occupational therapists, because the fabric gives gentle, even pressure while the user sits, lies or spins.
We stock two sizes. The large wrap is 450cm by 250cm and rated to 100kg, in plain nylon (blue, green or red) and in the silky tritone nylon (blue green, pink purple or yellow green), which is softer and slightly more elastic. The medium wrap is 450cm by 180cm and rated to 90kg. Both come with two carabiners, and the hanging length adjusts simply by where you tie the knots.
Hang the carabiners from one point for a tighter wrap that can spin, or from two points for a more open seat that moves forwards and back. The manual asks for a tight double knot at each end, a seat no more than 40cm above a soft surface, and sitting or gentle swinging rather than strong swinging. A swivel makes spinning smoother. Wrap swings can be used outdoors in fine weather but should not be left outside, and should be stored dry and out of direct sun. Each is also available bundled with a swing set stand for rooms without a beam.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the plain nylon and the silky tritone wrap swings?
Size and capacity are the same: 450cm by 250cm and 100kg. The tritone silky nylon is noticeably softer, silkier and slightly more elastic than the plain nylon, and comes in two-tone colours. The plain nylon is a little firmer and costs less. Both tie to the same carabiners and follow the same manual.
Which wrap swing size do I need?
The large 450cm by 250cm wrap is rated to 100kg and has enough fabric to wrap fully around a teenager or adult. The medium 450cm by 180cm wrap is rated to 90kg and suits younger children, with less fabric to gather. If the user will grow into it or adults will share it, choose the large.
How do I hang a wrap swing?
Tie each end of the fabric to a carabiner with a tight double knot, leaving some excess hanging, then clip the carabiners to one or two hanging points. One point gives a tighter wrap and lets it spin; two points give an open seat that moves forwards and back. Hang it from an anchor plate, beam, swing set stand or strong tree limb, with the seat no more than 40cm above a soft surface.
Can a wrap swing spin?
Yes, when it hangs from a single point. The manual notes that spinning works where the setup allows it, for example with a swivel fitted or a strap that can wind and unwind. Our premium swivel with large carabiners sits between the hanging point and the swing. Strong swinging is not what the wrap is for; it is designed for sitting, lying and gentle movement.
Can I use a wrap swing outside?
In fine weather, yes, but not left outside permanently. The manual says to store the swing in a dry place out of direct UV at the end of each season or when the weather turns. Keep sharp objects away from the fabric, including shoes, zips and rings on the person using it, because a snag can become a hole.
Do you sell wrap swings with a stand?
Yes. The large green nylon wrap comes bundled with the large swing set stand (185cm tall, 260cm wide, 206cm deep) and the medium teal wrap with the medium swing set stand (190cm tall, 205cm wide, 193cm deep).
