Free Standing Hammock: Large Mixed Blues

Setting up and caring for a free standing hammock

• Set the stand on flat, firm ground. Decking, pavers and short grass all suit; on soft lawn the feet can sink after rain, so a paver under each foot keeps it level.
• The steel stand slots together and packs back into its carry bag, so it can move around the yard or come in for winter. The pine arc stands bolt together with the 17mm socket tool in the box.
• The hammock's end loops sit on the hooks at each end of the stand. Choose the hook position that leaves the bed about knee height when someone is lying in it: the hammock can be adjusted to have a flatter bed, or a deeper curve.
• Every set is pre-matched, so the hammock fits the stand as supplied. If you swap in a different hammock, check that its total length suits the stand before anyone gets in.
• The sets are rated to 200kg, which covers two adults. Get in from the middle of the bed, never from the end near the hooks, and do not stand or jump in the hammock. If a leg of the stand ever lifts, get out and check the ground under it, and the stand and it's legs.
• The steel stand is powder coated and copes with weather, but it lasts longest under cover. The pine stand is stained and varnished; keep it under cover to maximise its life, and bring the cotton hammock in before rain. It lifts off the hooks easily.
• Check the hooks, ropes and stand joints regularly for rust, fraying or loosening.
