Item Description

This is the premium chair in our egg chair range. The set includes the latte rattan egg chair, its own round based steel stand, a thick cream seat cushion, a matching pillow, and the chain and hook to hang it. The pod is hand woven from PE rattan in an open lattice, in a natural latte colour that goes with timber decks and cream or white outdoor settings, where the grey and black chairs do not.

The pod is 98cm wide and 115cm tall, taller than our other single egg chairs, with a high back that supports your head. The cushion lifts out for cleaning. The pod hangs from the hook at the top of the curved stand and turns a full circle. The stand is 1.95m tall on a 95cm round base, the smallest footprint of our egg chair stands, and the set arrives as two cartons, the chair and the stand, which may be delivered separately.

How does it compare with our other egg chairs?

The same 150kg capacity, but a taller hand woven rattan pod, thicker cushions and the lighter natural colour. It costs more to buy and more to deliver, which is why the heavy item surcharge for TAS, WA and NT is higher than for the other single chairs. It is not recommended for children aged 3 and under.

Care

The rattan is made for weather and UV resistance and the frame is powder coated, but like our other chairs it lasts longest kept under cover when not in use. Take the cushion and pillow inside if it lives on a verandah; cream shows marks sooner than grey. Brush dust out of the weave with a soft brush, then wash it with warm water and a little mild detergent on a soft cloth, rinse and let it dry fully before the cushions go back in. Do not use bleach, abrasive cleaners or a pressure washer: they make synthetic rattan brittle and fade the colour. Partial shade slows fading, and a breathable cover keeps rain, dew and bird droppings off it between uses; lift the cover now and then so condensation does not start mould. Check the chain, hook and stand bolts each season.

Setting up, safety and care for hanging egg chairs

All of our egg chairs

Set the stand on a flat, firm surface with all of its feet touching the ground. The stands are between 1.86m and 2m tall, so they clear a standard 2.4m ceiling indoors and may fit a verandah or deck. Allow the base size on the listing plus room for the pod to turn.
Hang the pod from the hook at the top of the stand with the chain supplied, and check that the hook and chain links are fully closed before anyone sits in it. The single chairs turn a full circle on the stand. The two seater hangs from two points and swings gently forward and back instead.
The single chairs are rated to 150kg for one person sitting, and the two seater to 200kg for two. None of them are recommended for children aged 3 and under, and nobody should stand on the rim of the pod or swing it hard. The stands are made for sitting and gentle movement, not swinging.
Sit down onto the front of the cushion and slide back so your weight sits in the center of the pod. If you put your weight down on the edge, it may pivot away from you. The same applies when getting out, so get out the same way, feet first, and balancing correctly as not to fall forward.
The shells are made to be weather and UV resistant and the frames are powder coated, but the chair lasts longest kept under cover when it is not being used. Cushions and pillows come inside.
Check the chain, hook and stand bolts regularly and tighten anything that has worked loose.

Rattan and wicker pods (open weave, black wicker with armrests, two seater and latte rattan)

The pod is a fixed weave and does not fold, so it stays on the stand. Brush dust out of the weave with a soft brush, wash it with warm water and a little mild detergent on a soft cloth, rinse, and let it dry fully before the cushions go back in.
No bleach, abrasive cleaners or pressure washers: they make synthetic rattan brittle and fade. A breathable cover could be added to keep rain and dew off the chair between uses; lift it now and then so condensation does not start mould.
The open weave chair comes with a short fixed rope. Tie it to the stand if you would rather the pod stayed put, for reading or for anyone who finds the turning unsettling.

Folding fabric pod (grey folding egg chair)

The pod is a padded polyester shell rather than woven wicker, so there is no rattan to crack or unravel, and the cushion and pillow lift out for cleaning.
Fold the pod and bring it inside when it will not be used for a while, or if it lives on a verandah. Let it dry fully before folding it away.
The polyester material can be cleaned by a damp cloth with mild detergent mixed with water.
