Item Description
This red and yellow sensory swing is made from special material - waterproof oxford polyester. This sets it apart from regular cotton sensory swings, allowing it to be used outside without moisture damage. The matched stand is designed for indoor use, so the swing can be used both indoors and outdoors - indoors with the stand, or outdoors with a tree strap.

Not everybody is able to install a screw hook into their roof to hang a sensory swing, so that's where the stand comes in useful. You can set it up in the child's bedroom, play area, verandah or other area and move it as you please.

The stand is 2.1m tall, it's easy to assemble and it comes with additional accessories that let you adjust the hanging height - a chain, carabiner and S-hook.

Why is this one so popular?

It is popular with both kids with autism and occupational therapists for its soothing effect. The stand makes it very convenient to set up, without the need to install anything in the roof. If you want to use the swing outside, you'll only need a tree strap or rope - the material is fine for outdoors.

Some children like to add a soft blanket around the outside of the seat. This makes the seat warmer and flatter.

Safety and care for pod swings

  • After fitting the cushion, make sure the zip sits on the inside of the pod. If it is on the outside, turn the pod inside out. This keeps the load off the stitching.
  • Hang the seat no more than 35cm above grass, sand, wood chips or a mat.
  • The pod is for sitting and gentle rocking, not strong swinging. Sit in the centre with full weight when using it alone, in bare feet or soft shoes.
  • The canvas is waterproof, but do not let water pool inside if it gets wet, and bring it in and store it dry at the end of the season.
  • Check the fabric and stitching at the start of each season, and the hanging point and carabiners before each use.
  • An adult should supervise, and check that the child can get in and out safely. This is the part that requires more balance and manoeuvring.

Safety and care for swing stands

  • Set the stand on a flat surface, clear of toys and anything a child could bump into or trip on. Grass or matting is safer than a hard floor.
  • Double check that every bolt and connection is tight, then adjust the chain or straps so the swing hangs at a height that is easy to get on and off.
  • The X-Stand, U-Stand and tripod are for sitting or gentle swinging. Strong swinging belongs on a swing set stand with a wider base. If the swing is rated lower than the stand, the swing's limit applies.
  • Keep an eye out for sliding, leg lifting or tipping. Noting such would mean needing to take extra care not to swing overly strongly, and you may consider fixing the stand down, eg. our Spiral Pegs into dirt or grass, or adding weights to the base, such as Velcro sandbags from eBay.
  • When spinning from a single point, put a swivel between the carabiners so the rotation is smoother and puts less force on the stand.
  • On soft ground, peg or sandbag the legs; indoors, use floor protectors under the feet.
  • The stands are powder coated for weather, but give them some cover over long periods outside, and bring the swing in when it is not being used.
